Imran Ali Khan is a writer and researcher and sometimes he makes images too. He uses stories as maps to help him find his way. Imran’s last project, entitled Kiski Kahani: The Ramayana Project, looked at ways in which the Ramayana, in its many diverse retellings and forms, could be archived and documented. Drawing from this, his current project works specifically with an area at the foothills of the Himalayas, in an attempt to understand the ways in which space and time use the vocabulary of memory to inform ritual performances.

Forty days of abstaining. Forty days of filling it to the brim. Forty days of remembering the past. Forty days for letting it go. Forty days between presence and absence. Forty days to challenge and defeat. Forty days of resisting. Forty days of persisting. Forty days of crossing over into absence. Forty days of walking until the words become clear. Forty days of rain. Forty days of dry. Forty days of waiting. Forty men who hide. Forty to protect you from corrosion. Forty days to spy. Forty and they change the topic.
