Ret’sepile Makamane

Ret’sepile Makamane was born and raised in Lesotho. She studied Philosophy and Theatre at the National University of Lesotho. She went to the University of Leeds in the UK on a Graça Machel Scholarship in 2008, and subsequently moved onto the MA program in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, where she was later awarded the Charles Pick Fellowship. Her story “Be Careful!” was shortlisted for the 2010 Harper’s Bazaar/Orange Short Story Competition. She has also held Literature fellowships in Rhodes Greece, Winterthur in Switzerland, and Schoeppingen in Germany.
