Raphael Sbrzesny (*1985, Oberndorf a. N., Germany) studied new music, classical percussion, and chamber music in Stuttgart and Paris, experimental musical theater and composition in Bern and visual arts in Stuttgart (2008–2014) and Munich (2013–2014). Between 2014 and 2016 he took part in the postgraduate program at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste with Felix Ensslin in Stuttgart. There he proposed terms such as repertoire, finger exercise and the interpreter for a sujet imaginaire that marks spaces of opportunity for an artistic production, beyond a constant updating of existing orders within the artistic apparatus. Sbrzesny works in such media as performance, video, installation and sculpture, and has been awarded various prizes and scholarships including a residency at the Bundesatelier at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris and the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff scholarship for visual arts. Sbrzesny has organized performances, screenings, and solo exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (2015), Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin (2015), Heidelberger Kunstverein (2016), Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2015) ; Centre for Arts and Media Karlsruhe (ZKM) (2017), Kunst-Werke Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin (2013) and Gaus der Kunst Munich. Raphael Sbrzesny is currently a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.
