Gurur Ertem
Gurur Ertem is a social scientist and performance studies scholar, specializing in the sociology of the body, arts, and culture. Her transdisciplinary work combines the arts, political theory, cultural sociology and performance studies. She earned her PhD in sociology from The New School for Social Research, New York City, NY/USA and has been immersed in the contemporary dance culture for two decades as dancer, dramaturge, scholar, educator, and curator. Ertem edited several books and researches and writes on politics of/with the body and the affective and aesthetic enunciations of the »political« with a focus on recent social movements and corporeal resistance. As the founding co-director of Bimeras, a not-for-profit private arts and research organization, and iDANS Istanbul International Dance and Performance Festival, she approaches these questions not only from an academic perspective but also through artistic and curatorial practices.
