At a party, before I returned to my room in »Schloss Solitude,« I went to say goodbye to friends. In this place, when we say goodbye to colleagues at night, we say: »see you tomorrow,« or when we see them in the morning or during the hours of the day, having to part ways, we say: »see you in a bit« or »see you later.«
In my first days here, these phrases started to take shape in another form. We usually say : »see you tomorrow,« when we’re sure that we are going to see the people the next day, whether it was within a specified appointment, or in the working space for certain hours during the day, or certain days during the week.
But what happens here, in this space that embraces people from all over the world, living day and night in one place, each in a room, sharing the same garden and the same cafe, planning social and cultural programs together, or coming together spontaneously for dinner parties and dancing and singing, the phrase »see you tomorrow« turns into a statement of fact, not just a passing phrase, each knowing that he or she will definitely see the other sometime during the next day or night. If the other is still at the Schloss, and not leaving or traveling for a while, there is always a condition of certainty with all the colleagues in this space that they will see each other the next day.
This beautiful realization is part of what makes this place magical and safe, even if safety was a temporary factor, considering the constant movement of people in and out. Some pass for a month, others for half a year or a full one. The phrase »see you tomorrow« is a part of becoming familiar with people, with their faces and their non-passing presence. As if there’s a new reading for the concept of life, for the concept of the self that rests assured in seeing familiar faces and loving them the next day.
This safety overcomes tomorrow’s uncertainty, or the »in a bit« part, as if we are stepping over fear and anxiety with this safe realization, burning them completely in a distant forest away from our daily reality. Although we know well that in this world no one knows what tomorrow brings, and though a lot of the residents we know or didn’t know are leaving because their residency is over, parts of their souls that were strongly present here are still protecting their places, and even if we didn’t see them in a bit or tomorrow, we see them well in the marks they left.

في إحدى السّهرات، وقبل أن أعود إلى غرفتي في “أكاديميّة القلعة المنعزلة”، ذهبت لوداع الأصدقاء، وفي هذا المكان، حين نوّدع الزّملاء والزّميلات ليلًا، نقول: “أراك غدًا..”، أو حين نراهم في الصّباح أو خلال ساعات النّهار، ويجب أن نفترق، نقول: “أراك بعد قليل..”، أو “أراك لاحقًا”.
في الأيام الأولى التي وصلت بها إلى هُنا، بدأت هذه الجمل أعلاه تأخذ منحى آخر من التعامل معها. فنحن نقول عادة: “أراك غدًا..”، حين نكون متأكدين من أننا سنرى الأشخاص في اليوم التالي، سواء كان ذلك ضمن موعدٍ محددٍ، أو في إطار مكان العمل لساعات معينة خلال اليوم أو أيام محددة خلال الأسبوع.
لكن، ما يحدث هُنا، في هذه المساحة التي تحتضن أشخاص من كلّ العالم، يعيشون نهارًا وليلًا في مكان واحد، كل في غرفته، يشاركون نفس الحديقة والمقهى، يخططون لبرامج اجتماعيّة وثقافيّة سويةّ، ولبرامج لا منهجيّة، كحفلات وجبات العشاء والرّقص والغناء، تتحول جملة “أراك غدًا..”، لجملة حقيقيّة، ليست عابرة، كلّ يعلم بأنه سيرى الآخر في اليوم التالي، أو في مرحلة ما من النّهار أو الليل، لو كان الآخر في نفس المكان، ولم يتركه أو يسافر لفترة ثم يعود. هناك حالة تأكد دائمًا، من قبل معظم الزّملاء والزّميلات في هذا الفضاء، بأنهم سيرون أحدهم الآخر في اليوم التالي.
هذا الإدراك الجميل، هو جزء مما يجعل هذا المكان ساحرًا وآمنًا، حتى لو كان الأمان عاملًا مؤقتًا في ظلّ تحرك الناس الدّائم من وإلى هُنا. البعض يعبر لشهر، الآخر لنصف سنة أو سنة كاملة. جملة “أراك غدًا..”، هي جزء من الاعتياد على النّاس، على وجوههم وحضورهم غير العابر. كأن هنالك قراءة جديدة لمفهوم الحياة، لمفهوم الذّات التي تتطمئن برؤية وجوه تعرفها وتحبّها، في اليوم التالي.
هذا الأمان، يفوق حالة المجهول من الغد، أو من “ما بعد قليل”، كأننا بالإدراك الآمن هذا، ندوس على الخوف والقلق، نحرقه تمامًا في غابة بعيدة عن هذا الواقع اليوميّ الذي نعيشه، برغم أننا نعرف جيدًا أن في هذا العالم، لا أحد يعلم ماذا يأتي الغد به، لكننا.. ورغم أن الكثير يرحلون عن هُنا، لأن فترة إقامتهم قد انتهت، وإن عرفناهم، أو لم نعرفهم، شيءُ ما من أرواحهم التي حضرت بقوة في هذا المكان مرةً، لا زالت تحمي أماكنهم.. وهم، وإن لم نراهم بعد قليل أو غدًا، نراهم جيدًا بما تركوا من بصماتٍ في المكان.
