This is a guide through the backend of a Schlosspost-post. It provides you with all the necessary information to set up your post and introduces you to all the possibilities to present your text and image material.
First Steps
1. Title
Not too long. 1-4 words max. is ideal.
For example: ‘Twas All in My Head, Get Rid of Edges.
Take care of capitalization and use this title case converter
Make sure the permalink below the title is synchronized with your title. If it consists only of numbers instead of your title, correct it by clicking »edit«, erasing the link and confirming with »ok«. A new link will automatically be inserted afterwards.
2. Entry Meta 1 (Spitzmarke)
The »Spitzmarke« is supposed to serve as a kind of tag. It can be related to the format(essay, diary, studio, short story, interview, review…) but also to the content (VR drawing, machines & psychoanalysis, found footage, women in film…)
If you are publishing on a Schlosspost blog, »Spitzmarke« is always the title of your blog plus the number of entry: e.g. Traces of a Water Spirit#2, Lost Traces#6
3. Entry Headline
Here, you can extend the title if necessary. This will only appear on post level.
For example: ‘Twas All in My Head – Research and Frustrations
Please use this only if really necessary.
4. Entry Meta 2
Name of the author(s).
For example: by Devin Jernigan
5. Entry Teaser
This short teaser, visible on the front page, provides the basic information for the reader what he/she can expect.
Max.length 170 characters (including tab spaces).
Keep in mind that Schlosspost is content-wise very diverse. Information on the author’s background, the topic of the contribution and the format can be helpful to raise readers’ interest.
Examples:
- »Architect Devin Jernigan on the absence of anthropomorphic elements in architecture and what this means for understanding the relationship between humans and buildings.«
- »With a team of researchers, Grenoble-based Pauline de Chalendar developed a tool to draw in VR. In an interview she talks about leaving the limits of a paper page behind.«
6. Featured Image
The featured image is the header image of the contribution. It appears on the front page and as a the header of your post.
7. Image Caption
Caption of the header image.
8. Show featured image on entry page
Choose »yes« or »no«.
Yes (left): Image appears with a light grey frame on top of the post.
No (right): You can avoid that the featured image and the header image are the same by choosing »no«. But be aware that you have to add an image in the beginning of the post. It appears without light grey frame.
9. People
Choose author’s name. Only possible if the person has already a profile in the peoples category. By choosing a name a light grey box will appear on the bottom of the published post with short bio of author.
10. Show in Latest and Trending
If you choose »yes«, the post will appear on the front page under »Latest«. »Trending« articles are the most frequently clicked ones. Only choose »no« if you for any reasons want to hide the post.
11. Manual Related Entries
Choose three related contributions. You can search for suitable posts by selecting a similar category as the one of your post. The selected contributions will be visible on the bottom of the published post.
12. External Redirect
13. Categories
Mark the categories related to your post and unmark the category »Uncategorized« (in case it is marked).
Please do not use more than 2 categories.
14. Save Draft and Publish
»Save Draft« is a very crucial function to save the work you have already done on your post. Whenever you do bigger changes make sure to »save draft«. To get an impression of what your post looks like please use »preview« and not publish. »Publish« is the last thing you do when the contribution has been proofread and was approved by one of the Schlosspost editors!
