»Runako: ›Ghosted‹ African Aesthetics. To the Fore And Into the Future« is a project by digital artist Dananayi Muwanigwa from Harare/Zimbabwe for the web residencies by Solitude and ZKM on the topic »Ghosted 2018« curated by Tegan Bristow. Runako means »beauty« in the Shona language. The Runako project is a celebration of both traditional African culture and aesthetics through speculative design language and exploration. The artist compiles sketches, digital paintings, and GIFs of characters with attire and accessories inspired by prominent African tribes, and juxtaposes them with futuristic imagery.
