A White Sound At Night

Sie will Fledermäuse fangen.

A White Sound at Night (Audio drama, WDR, 2006): A summer night. Four people are under way. Their paths cross briefly. Along the way they meet death, parting and a new beginning. Irene, who is driven by self doubt and hysteria, suffers from an overpowering test anxiety. She is facing a serious decision. In panic, she wanders through the city at night and asks herself what her life is worth. Norbert mourns his girlfriend, whom he lost through an accident. He has discharged from the day. As a newspaperman he only lives at night. He observes the people, keeps his distance and philosophizes about the energy of the night. Nele has run away. She wants to trap bats. She seeks to demonstrate to her class that she really is an expert and that bats are heralds of luck. Fearless, she cycles through the night and comes across an obstacle that questions her plan. Malte shoots across the country road in a rapture of joy, making plans for the future. He has just been informed that he has overcome a deathly disease. Yet, he is unaware of how his life will change a second time this night. An invisible observer accompanies them, as the waves of the night carry them through the darkness to the margin of the morning. – English Translation by Franziska Schmidt
